Questions on the Farm

We are in the midst of fixing up an old farm which was built in the 1800's...It's tons of work. I want this to eventualy be an animal rescue. I started out with five chickens a lady wanted to get rid of because her roosters were pecking them to much, they looked like bald eagles running around my yard...but in there own way were cute. They followed me around all the time and layed plenty of eggs. My flock has grown in a year up to 40...not sure why but when the time changed so did the egg laying...to a halt...I have the pony Starry which I have posted a picture of and Billy , he's a theraputic horse who was given to us, as his family moved away and could not take him. Our third horse is Romeo, he is very set in his ways and wants to run the place. We also have a big black lab named cubby and a tiny black pug named abby...they play together for hous on end and really look funny together. We also have a special place in our hearts for the kittys, they seem to just show up, we have three that live in the barn with the ducks and horses and they play all day and sleep alot. My goal is to someday do reviews on my blog for products related to farm animals also. I feel there is a growing need for this. We have about 12 acres here in New York which I intend on using mostly for the animals and our garden so we can stock the freezer for the winter. I have laid out all the sunflowers we grew on the picnic table and everyday I get about 15 bluejays who stop by for a feast , they are so pretty to watch. What birds do you feed ? I would love to hear from other animal rescues on how you got strted also...!!!
